Pinchas Cohen Gan, Israeli painter and sculptor, was born in 1942 in Meknes, Morocco and in 1949 immigrated to Israel. Pinchas Cohen Gan lives in Tel Aviv-Yafo. During the seventies Cohen Gan created a number of performances and other conceptual actions in which he created a combination between the social, political and ecological dimensions of art. In addition to the artistic discussion, his works express metaphorical allegories of alienation, rejection and living in a hostile reality.
The paintings and sculptures created by Cohen Gan focus on the human figure and anonymity, and use philosophical terms. The works are made in combinations of different techniques and in an expressive style. Alongside his artistic work, Cohen Gan created a number of studies and texts that combine aspects of aesthetics, sociology and philosophy of art.
Cohen Gan was granted with multiple awards including Israel Prize in painting (2008) and presented in solo and group exhibitions. His works are in the collections of leading modern art museums.
